Today two of the top 3 teams in my top 10 poll are playing for the SWAC championship ! The winner of this could also garner the 2014 HBCU national championship considering it is the last game of the season.
Southern University (fresh off their record breaking 52-45 win over the 7th ranked Grambling State Tigers in the 41st annual "Bayou Classic") will face the Alcorn State Braves !
Both teams have 9 wins and 3 losses on the season, as a matter of fact one of the three losses suffered by the Jaguars is a 56-16 thrashing at the hands of the Braves! But right now the the Jags are in the midst of a seven game win streak !
The Jaguars of Southern will be lead by Freshman QB Austin Howard and 1,000 yard rusher Junior running back Lenard Tillery ( 194 carries for 1138 yards and 8 Tds). But the X factor for the Jags offense may be wide out Willie Quinn who is 23rd in all of the FCS in "All - Purpose yards"

Alcorn State on the other hand has not played a game since finishing the regular season with a 34-31 loss to Jackson State on November 22nd. Speaking of Jackson State the Jags manhandled the Tigers 42 -28 on October 25th. ASU is lead by Junior John Gibbs Jr who is 29th Among all FCS players this year in "Total Offensive Yards".

So today at 3pm Central , 4pm Eastern Standard time its the Toyota SWAC championship televised live from Houston, Texas on ESPNU. Its is the Equivalent to the FBS National championship for HBCU football as the Southern Jaguars clash with the Braves of Alcorn State for what could be the National Championship!
